Salt Lake City, UT 5/5/2012 [08 May 2012|11:43pm]

Well...I guess it's not really a surprise that this community (like most of the rest of LJ) is just about dead. But I don't care, I wanna share my experience at the Mason Jennings performance last Saturday in SLC.

I started listening to Mason around 2006/2007 and loved his stuff every since. My favorite album is definitely Simple Life (anyone been able to find a hard copy of this album?). Anyway, my gf and I FINALLY got to see him live last weekend and it was GREAT!

First off, it was a 21 and up show which made it TONS better than most of the shows we've been to in Utah. Secondly, the venue was just perfect (The State Room). Full service bar, clean bathrooms and comfortable (non-assigned) seating for everyone in the house. Mason came on (no crappy openning acts) and played an AWESOME show. Among the songs played were some of my all time favorites: Crown, Jackson Square, Butterfly. Also a bunch of songs from the new album "Minnesota". He even played a new song he's just written...don't believe it had a name yet, but the lyrics used the words "Dreamin'" alot and it was Hawaiian-style guitar playing.

His last song (before the encore) was a fairly new one called "The Field" which he explained was his musical take on the War in the Middle East. This song is so amazingly powerful, and very little to do with politics. You'd have to be pretty heartless not to feel something when you listen to this song. My gf was in the Air Force and served a deployment in Iraq and several other places in the Middle East. This song had her in tears. If you'd like to hear a pretty good recording of it, it's available on the live recording from "Fingerprings Sept 20th, 2009". Just a very powerful, deep and meaningful piece all around.

For the encore, Mason asked for requests so me and my girl were rooting for "Figher Girl" and we got our wish! Never had that happen before!

After the show, Mason came out to greet everyone. I found this really endearing as most artists could care less to do such a thing. But Mason was out there, signing autographs and taking pictures long after we left. We did get to say Hi to him and my girl got a chance to tell him how meaningful "The Field" was for her. He seemed really appreciative to know that his music has such an effect on people.

All in all, this show was by far the best live music experience I've had in years. I definitely hope to see Mason play live again soon.

P.S. My GF bought me "The Flood" at the show and it has some GREAT tunes on it (half of them are currently stuck in my head right now). Definitely worth picking up.

Hey everybody!

I just started dabbling with making icons and my fist decent attempt was this picture I took at a Mason concert at St. Olaf in Minnesota a couple years ago. I thought I would share it with other Mason fans!
Please feel free to use it yourself if you want :) Just please credit me in the comments section. Thanks!

hey guys, i don't know if you've seen it already but i found some links for the "be here now" video. i like it a lot! i read somewhere that it was made by cat solen, who i guess also has done videos for bright eyes and death cab. makes sense. the video reminds me of the bright eyes "bowl of oranges" video... don't ask why. it just does. anyway, enjoy!

mason at the bowery ballroom, nyc [24 Feb 2006|09:51am]

I saw mason last night! was so awesome. I forgot it was him solo. The songs were a lot more intimate. I actually shed a tear (adrian).

I was a bit disappointed with the crowd... it was a sold out show, but there were a lot of really loud people, especially during forgiveness, which is a really sweet quiet song. I guess I learned that's a huge pet peeve of mine.

I hope you all get a chance to see mason solo. I missed the other guys, but I felt I got to hear a lot of songs they don't usually play.

anyone else catching this tour?

Mason [12 Aug 2005|09:44am]

Masons official site: www.masonjennings.com , no longer has the ability to listen to the random songs at the top. Instead Sony/EPIC(apparently Mason's new label) has put a feces toolbar on it.

Mason Sells Out! [26 Jun 2005|07:50am]

Information via www.birdwingsbeat.com

According to Twin Cities rag Star Tribune, Mason just signed with Glacial Pace, a subsidiary of Sony's Epic music label headed by Modest Mouse growler Isaac Brock. Big news. Huge. For years, Mason has maintained distance from the major labels to avoid the politics and creative control that usually accompany such career-boosting proximity. Brock must have convinced Mason on the tour last fall that Glacial wouldn't stifle him, and would let him — wait for it — move at his own pace. The article also states that Mason is searching for a "big name" producer for his next album, to be released next spring. Here's hoping for a Lillywhite or Rubin, and not that guy who ruined Dave Matthews Band. With Brock himself recently doing producer duties for Wolf Parade's self-titled EP, maybe we'll see a Modest Mouse/Mason Jennings album. I don't think I'm alone when I pee myself a little.

I'm kinda shocked by this actually. I fear what could become of Mason...let's hope he doesn't let producers take over and mess his style up.

Hey all.

I joined this here community, as you can see.

I saw Mason in Boston on April 2nd. It was a great show, and he played a nearly perfect set. All the songs I wanted to hear, I mean.

But that's enough fangirling around for now.

Blind Pig Ann Arbor 4/15/2005 [16 Apr 2005|03:41am]

[ mood | estatic ]

Great show! Mason did another encore after about 25% of the crowd dispersed us die hards chanted for him. I got Chris' pick, Mason's Set list and my fiance' got one of Brian's sticks.

Set List:

(2 SOLO)

BALLAD FOR MY ONE TRUE LOVE(did not play it)
SOUTHERN CROSS(a lot of us were chanting for it)
DOWN/MOUNTAIN(mason had everyone sing the chorus acapella on mtn. definetly the highlight of the show!!!!)

DARKNESS BETWEEN FIREFLIES(i actually wanted to hear this, he played it at the last show and K.I.R. wasn't played)
________________(ENCORE II){not on masons set list, they came back on after 10 minutes of MASON MASON chants!}

I have to say this was my third time seeing Mason and I pretty much sum this up as the best M.J. show I've seen. The band was so tight playing together, Chris' fifth harmonies on vocals were astounding. I have to take a picture of the set list and post it in here. I made the changes on it with a pen so I knew what songs he did.

mason covers? [14 Apr 2005|11:44pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

I've only discovered mason recently (January), but I fell in love with him, I have all his cds and he's one of my favorites!!

So I saw Mason for the first time just last week. I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone who hasn't heard him perform these covers... because my friend & I were on the ceiling when we heard Mason perform two great songsCollapse ) I would love (and pay for) recordings of mason playing these songs... does any one know where I can find them? I've been keeping an eye on soulseek... and I've done a lot of web searching.

Mason was incredible. His shows are def. worth more than $12/ticket, but I'm not complaining!

[ mood | pleased ]

ohmygosh. The Mason show last nite was all I had hoped for. I couldn't believe how packed the place was when I got there! He ended w/ "Godless." Everything was perfect. I just wish he had played "The Light", but regardless we were all so happy! :) Do you think he'd play my wedding? haha. It wouldn't be for a few years though...
